My Knee Injury, Surgery and Recovery - Part 1

Hi Internet Friends!!

Hope everyone is having a nice summer, if you're in the northern hemisphere of the world.

Today is the PRIDE parade here in Stockholm   . Which means a massive celebration out on the streets. I on the other hand am just chilling at my parent's place, I have been somewhat productive though. So that's good. Now I'm thinking about potentially making myself a cuppa (the weather isn't awesome) and reading my book - The Universe Has Your Back.

There's not much I can do now that I'm still on crutches.

As the title reads, I have unfortuntately garnered a knee injury this year. It happened during Sweden's nationalday celebrations . It's all still a bit of a mystery to me, I don't quite know what happened. What I do know is that I was at Smedsuddsbadet - a "park" with a group of friends, dancing to this song along with the rest of the park.
Next thing I know, I get a "hit" in the back of my knee cap and I lose my balance and fall forward landing on my knees. OUCH......

Unfortunately the landing was not particularly smooth. I literally felt something pop in my knee. I was in such excruciating pain that I was unable to stand up and was laying on the ground for about twenty minutes waiting for the pain to surpass. Which may I point out, it didn't. However when there are massive events and celebrations like this that attract a lot of people, there are always paramedics on the spot. This day was no exception and my friend V practically had to carry me to the paramedics who first felt my knee to ensure that nothing was broken, they then wrapped it in a bandage and gave me strong painkillers, that subsided the pain enough for me to be half carried and half hobbling to the bus to get back to my parent's place.
My knee swelled up to 3-4 times it's regular size instantanously and I was unable to bend it or move.

Once back at my parent's place I was able to wash off my feet (I had hobbled back barefoot since I had been wearing heels earlier - not during the actual accident though) and then I lay down in bed with my leg and knee elevated, took some strong painkillers before dozing off to bed.

The following day my dad went with me to the "ER", where a doctor checked my knee more thoroughly, I also had a regular x-ray - it only picks up any skeletal injuries or damage. The doctor at the hospital completely dismissed my injury and brushed it off as "nothing serious", but he also told me to seek out a knee experet (orthopedist?) after a week if I was still in pain/still having extreme swelling...

....To be continued....

This was part one of my knee injury, surgery and recovery. This post was obviously on my actual injury. I will go into more detail surrounding my surgery (which I unfortunately had to have) as well as my post surgery recovery in future posts.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon. Have a great Saturday and HAPPY PRID

10 things to do on a rainy day..

One of my favorite things in the world is when it's raining.

It's so cozy -  hearing the drops spatter against the window, the smell of wet grass etc.

Sometimes it can be boring to be stuck at home on a rainy day, so here are 10 of my favorite rainy day activities. In no particular order...

...Ready?!   PS: All images are via Google/Pinterest.

Watch a series: I've become a bit of a series junkie recently. I'm the kind of person who once I find a series I like, I can watch it over and over again. Right now I'm re-watching Full House.  Other favorites include F.R.I.E.N.D.S, New Girl, O.I.T.N.B, Lost, Gilmore Girls, Modern Family, etc.

Drink a nice cuppa: Tea is always a favorite. Not just when it's raining, but during any cold, dark, gloomy day. There's something cozy about making your favorite brew and sipping on it - maybe while watching your favorite series.

Read a book: Curling up under the covers with a hot cuppa and a book is not only cozy, but also very relaxing and zen. My current read is this one ↑ "The Universe Has Your Back", By Gabbi Bernstein, as part of my journey of spiritual growth and self discovery.  So far I really like it and I do reccomend it.

Take a nice hot bath: A soothing bath with a candle, maybe some relaxing music, dimmed lights and a book. That's all you need really.

Drink a glass of wine (or two): This only applies if you are of legal age, obviously. In Sweden the legal age is 18, what is it in your country?

Take a nap: Nothing, and I mean nothing - beats a good nap. Try it, you'll thank me later.

Invite friends over: Have a gossip, have dinner, watch movies, eat ice-cream. Whatever your heart desires. Just surround yourself with your friends.

Bake cupcakes: Or any condiments of your choice.

Lie in bed and listen to the rain: One of my favorite things to do on a rainy day is to hear the spattering of the rain against the windows, rooftops etc. Coziness factor x 1 000 000.

Cuddling: Find someone to cuddle with. Nothing measures up to a good cuddle, maybe you can even nap together. You know two birds, one stone sort of thing.

These are some of the things that I enjoy during a rainy day. What are some of your favorite rainy day activities?

Have a great (rainy) day wherever you are.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Hi Internet Friends!
Today is not just a regular Monday on my end, today is my mom's Birthday, and it's not just any Birthday she is turning 52.

It's been a calm and quiet day, I've been trying to push for dinner because I love a good excuse to dress up and stuff, but no one seems that keen.

Anyways, the morning started with breakfast at "home" with my parents. My dad and I sang and woke up her up (before breakfast obviously).
Other then that we've just had coffee and cherry cake (that my mom made) at home with my grandparents and one of my mom's friend. It was very tasty!    Speaking of tasty, someone is cooking. Mom I'm guessing and I'm getting a delicious whiff through the bedroom window, which is making me very hungry.     MMMMMMMMMMMM...

The rest of the day calls for relaxation I think. Maybe I'll read my book, or watch a movie. #vacationmode

I hope you all have a great day and rest of the week. Speak soon.

PS: As you might be able to tell, I've figured out how to insert emojis into my blog posts. Sorry if I overdid it . It's cute though, isn't it?!

A journey of self love and growth

Hi Internet friends!

God it's been long! How are you guys?!

I've been completely absent, but I promise there's a good reason for that.

For one I've had a couple of accidents this year which has made it impossible for me to work (don't worry it's nothing too serious). I'm currently on crutches and three weeks post op (knee injury).

But the main reason is that I've just been doing soul searching. I've embarked on a spiritual journey (which I love), but it has also made me question what direction I want to take my blog in.

This is my space. I mean the url is gaithrislife.... I want to share more of myself and my life with you guys, meaning that I also want to share hardships and difficult things I am or have experienced. However I want to do it in a way where I'm personal, but not private if that makes sense.

I will not share details that could be upsetting to other people and I also will not share personal things about my family, friends or other aspects of my life. I hope you can be understanding of this.

My goal and vision is to hopefully inspire and motivate people, by challenging them. I want us to be able to have discussions and conversations, broades our perspectives and share experiences with one another.

What do you want to know about me? Feel free to ask me any questions in the comment section.

As you guys might have been able to tell, I've suffered (and still am suffering) from a severe case of writer's block so please send me any suggestions for posts you want to see her. It could be anything. My travels, my experiences with coming from two very different cultures, goals and dreams for the future etc. You name it.

I hope you guys are willing to embark on this journey of self growth with me, let's create awesome discussions (without offending anyone). Hope you're having an awesome morning/day/evening/night.

See you soon!

#2016RECAP part: 1

Hi Friends!

How are you guys?! I can't believe it's already 2017?! WTF?!
I know this post is somewhat delayed, ehm..... hello! It's Valentine's day tomorrow... 2016 was probably the most eventful year of my life, ever. It's crazy how much your life can change and evolve in just 365 days. I decided to recap 2016 in three posts, otherwise it would just be way too long.

Here is a recap of my 2016:

January: My 2016 started off with me ringing in the New Year with my now ex boyfriend. We went to an awesome burlesque inspired party and were dressed to the nines. In early January we also attended the Disney On Ice show. We were the only ones there without a kid.. hehehe....

At the end of the month my best friend Matilda gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl in the whole, entire world. Little baby girl Loa. I had the privilege of going to visit Matilda, her husband and the new baby in the hospital the day after she was born. I held her in my arms, and brought loads of gifts obviously and a big balloon in the shape of a duck.

This was the pic I posted with L the day after she was born.
Already then my heart was so full of love for this little human.

February: In February my ex boyfriend and I celebrated three months together, we went out to dinner at Wagamama's. They're food is uh-mazing. If you've not been there you need to go!
February was also the month that he moved into a new and bigger apartment, which also resulted in me moving in with him, not full time. But it was a nice getaway sometimes.
Like I mentioned earlier in this post February is the month of Valentine's day, although in my opinion I don't think Valentine's is any more special then any other day. The fact that we need one day to show more appreciation is BS in my opinion, and like many other things it's been commericialised.

But regardless we had a great breakfast at home, a stroll around Old Town with coffee, visiting a museum and then we ended the day with flowers and chocolate (for me) and a nice home cooked meal.

Valentine's day 2016...

March: March was the month where spring finally started to make an appearance. It was also a little bit more eventful. Besides working as usual - I attended the Ellie Goulding concert here in Stockholm. She was incredible! It was K, myself and about 25 000 13-16 year olds. LOL.
March was also the month K turned 29 (I organized a mini surprise party for a couple of his friends). At the end of the month (around easter) we travelled to his homeland (The Netherlands) and I discovered that I have a crazy fear of flying, to the point where I actually had to pop anxiety medication to calm my nerves and put me to sleep (prescribed to me by a doctor). I have flown tons in the past and always loved it, but unfortunately my anxieties have worsened over the years. Treatment isn't always the best either... Unfortunately.

One of my all time favorite bands Kent released tickets to their last show and tour ever! #Sadtimes. My friend Tess managed to get us tickets though! I'd never seen them live before and just knew I had to see them Live! I can't even explain how much I love them and how significant they were during my teen years.

April: In early April (after K and I got back from our trip) we decided to break up. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. We broke up on our five month anniversary. Initially I was quite upset about it, mostly because I had another failed relationship under my belt, but breakups are a part of life I guess.

I've learned some valuble lessons about myself after dealing with breakups.
I started spending a lot more time with my girl friends again. Some days were really hard, but I did come out a lot stronger and learned to value myself and my other relationships a lot more...

To be continued...
This was part one of my #2016RECAP.

Thanks for cheching in. I'll post part two soon.
